With 100 computers and extended hours of access, this year’s Hands-on Labs will prove to be the biggest and best yet. WES hands-on labs will offer IT administrators in-depth exercises on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. The developer lab, new for 2008, will give developers hands-on experience using two popular platforms to build BlackBerry applications.

BlackBerry® Enterprise Server Hands-on Labs

Audience: IT Administrators

This year, the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server Hands-on Labs will focus on new features of the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for Microsoft® Exchange, IBM® Lotus Domino and Novell® GroupWise® as well as a variety of administrative tasks. Users will be able to explore and learn more about the BlackBerry Enterprise Server through self-directed exercises with the assistance of talented members of our support organization.

Hands-on modules will include:

  • Exploring BlackBerry Manager introduces BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrators to BlackBerry Manager software version 4.1.5.
  • Managing administrative roles introduces the administrative roles to which support personnel can be assigned. It looks in detail at the options available for each of these roles and discusses how to administer them.
  • Deploying BlackBerry smartphones introduces strategies for deploying BlackBerry smartphones to BlackBerry smartphone users.
  • BlackBerry Monitoring Service provides information on SNMP and an overview of the BlackBerry® Monitoring Service. It also describes how the BlackBerry Monitoring Service can be incorporated into the BlackBerry® Enterprise Solution.
  • Managing Security introduces IT policies, IT policy administration, and basic troubleshooting for IT policy issues.
  • Introducing Wi-Fi technology introduces Wi-Fi® networks and reviews how to enable BlackBerry smartphones for Wi-Fi networks, how to install and configure Wi-Fi connections and how to activate BlackBerry smartphones over the Wi-Fi network.

BlackBerry JDE Plug-in for Eclipse

The new BlackBerry® Java® Development Environment Plug-in for Eclipse&tm; is here! Learn how to create rich Java applications for the BlackBerry wireless platform with assistance from BlackBerry developers at Research In Motion. Topics range from the basic HelloBlackBerry application and working with user interface components, to building a geocaching application and your own multi-media player. Whether you’re new to the BlackBerry JDE or a master coder, this is a great way to learn from BlackBerry experts and see how the BlackBerry JDE Plug-in for Eclipse will improve your coding experience.

BlackBerry Plug-in for Microsoft Visual Studio

Get ready for the new version of the BlackBerry® Plug-in for Microsoft® Visual Studio®. Sit down with some of the actual plug-in development team to learn how to leverage Visual Studio and take advantage of the latest plug-in features. Topics range from how to write and debug a simple wireless application, to leveraging existing on-device applications including location information.
